International Chiropractic Essay
Competition Rules

Entrants may submit more than one manuscript for consideration, but only one prize will be awarded per individual.

Essays must not have been published elsewhere prior to or following submission (original manuscripts only).

Ownership of the essay remains the property of the author and the author agrees that the ONE Research Foundation has the right to use the essay (with proper attribution to the author) wholly or in part in perpetuity.

Employees and members of the ONE Research Foundation are ineligible to enter.

Essay Format:

Only electronic submissions will be accepted. All Essays must be submitted digitally as MS Word documents.

All essays must be in English.

Papers should be in 12 point font (Times or equivalent font). 

Please double space all of your paper -- including the bibliography.

Do not break any words (hyphenate) at the end of any line and do not insert hard page breaks.

Essay must be in the Vancouver Style.

Essays should be no more than 2000 words long (exclusive of references).

Please include a word count at the end of your essay.

The titles of journals should be abbreviated according to the style used in Index Medicus. Consult the list of Journals Indexed for MEDLINE, published annually as a separate publication by the National Library of Medicine. The list can also be obtained at:

Please follow normal research paper guidelines such as: always cite your sources and include a bibliography that is appropriately formatted in Vancouver Style. Remember if you use a direct quote you need to provide an exact page number in your citation. You may use parenthetical references or footnotes/endnotes.

References : Authors are responsible for accurate reference and citation information, especially accuracy of author names, journal titles, volume numbers, and page numbers.

Authors are responsible to verify references against the original document and not from reading the abstract alone. Care should be taken to accurately represent the original work and not misconstrue the original meaning of the paper. Avoid using abstracts as references.

Only references that provide support for a particular statement in the text should be used. Reference or referring to unpublished work should be avoided. Excessive use of references should be avoided.

Criteria for Essay Evaluation:

This Competition will incorporate Blinded Judging, that is, to eliminate any possible personal bias in this competition, the judges will have no access to any identifying information regarding the contestants or their college affiliations.

Each essay will be judged on its own merit by a group of Academic Faculty or Administrators.

Award-level entries must be well written, thorough and concise. Entries will be judged on how well entrants have focused their essay and how well they have addressed four basic criteria: Informed Content*, Creativity and Imagination, Persuasiveness/Level of Inspiration, and Writing Technique.

Winning entries will be notable for proper use of grammar, spelling and syntax as well as appropriate, interesting, persuasive content and coherent structure.

Winning essays will not only be rigorously researched, but written in a way that stimulates the reader’s interest.

Scores will be determined using the following guidelines:

-Informed Content*
30 points
-Creativity and Imagination
30 points
-Essay is persuasive and inspirational
20 points
-Organization and grammar of the essay
20 points

* Informed content means that the students have educated themselves about the technologies and have set their essay in the context of infrastructure that is accurate and scientifically and technically valid.

About the Competition:

The competition is a project of the Educational Committee of the ONE Research Foundation a 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit organization that funds scientific research on the Biopsychosocial / Body-Mind models.

The winning entrants in this competition will be awarded prizes as follows:

Students Faculty
First Prize: $1,000
First Prize: $2,000
Second Prize: $500
Second Prize: $1,000
Third Prize: $250
Third Prize: $500

 

 

 

 

Additionally each of the Chiropractic Institutions that the winners are affiliated with will be sent a plaque with the student or faculty member’s achievement along with the institution’s name.

3 Honorable mentions in each category will also be awarded.
